By employing the Scratch–a visual programming software that integrates programming language, operating environment and presentation effect, this book introduces the basic concepts of computer programming to young readers, and take examples to instruct them to complete their own programming works. This book firstly introduces the Scratch operation to help readers quickly learn to use it, and then unfolds programming knowledge in two parts. The first part covers the basics of programming, including the three basic structures of a computer language, the concepts of events, variables and the methods for producing Scratch projects. The second part focuses on the advanced programming techniques and basic concepts of computer science, including the knowledge of Boolean logic, case structure and loop structure. In the last two chapters, the author tries to show young readers the core content of programming in the future with the tools provided by the Scratch.

  • Qiao Taopeng is a programming expert holding a Doctoral Degree granted by Tsinghua University. He has managed to integrate the US CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards with China’s information technology education, and apply the integration result to the system design of programming teaching. Fang Liang, holding a Master’s Degree granted by Tsinghua University, is a well-known game designer and programming master, and founder of Xiaomai Programming. Liu Yun, holding a Master’s Degree granted by Beijing University of Post & Telecommunication, is a practitioner of educational technology that has all along been working at the front line of primary education. Zhang Wenjing is currently engaged in trajectory prediction of target population in the field of communication. She had been the provincial first-prize winner in a national mathematics competition.
