This book presents the nature and significance of metaphysics by analyzing the relevant discussions of philosophers such as Aristotle, Immanuel Kant, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, and Gottlob Frege. It reveals the essence of metaphysics in three aspects: Firstly, metaphysics is the understanding of knowledge itself; secondly, metaphysics is related to language and logic; thirdly, philosophy itself is metaphysics, distinguishing it from empirical philosophy. Metaphysics is a priori, while empirical philosophy relies on experience. The essence of philosophy is logic, and important philosophical (metaphysical) questions require the application of logical theory and methods. This kind of research is relatively lacking in Chinese intellectual and cultural traditions.
