On June 28, the launch ceremony for Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality (TRCN) --a new international academic journal sponsored by Tsinghua University, with academic support from its Institute for Carbon Neutrality, and published by Tsinghua University Press--was held during the opening session of the 2025 International Forum on "Carbon Neutrality and Energy Intelligence Connectivity." Dr. HE Kebin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Tsinghua University's Institute for Carbon Neutrality, and Dr. QIU Xianqing, Chairman of Tsinghua University Press, attended the ceremony.
Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality is co-edited by Dr. Michael B. McElroy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Professor at Harvard University, and Dr. HE Kebin. This journal is distributed globally through SciOpen, an international scientific journal publishing platform independently developed by Tsinghua University Press.
Dr. McElroy joined the ceremony virtually; highlighting that Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality builds on years of collaboration between Harvard University and Tsinghua University in Energy-Economy-Environment research. He stressed that both institutions will continue to work closely to establish the journal as an open, neutral platform for global scholarly discourse.
Dr. HE Kebin shared his aspirations for the journal, stating that the journal will become an important link for knowledge exchange, driving disciplinary development, fostering innovation, and benefiting the global community. Dr. LU Xi, Assistant Director of Tsinghua University's Institute for Carbon Neutrality and the journal's Executive Editor, outlined the journal's vision, editorial board, and published articles, inviting leading scholars worldwide to contribute to the growth of Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality.
Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality has established an editorial board combining international expertise with deep academic credentials. At the press conference, Dr. HE Kebin and Dr. QIU Xianqing jointly presented appointment letters to members representing both the advisory and editorial boards. The appointees included: Prof. John Loughhead (University of Birmingham, UK) as representative of the advisory board; Prof. SHEN Zhenjiang, director of the International Joint Laboratory between Kanazawa University (Japan) and Fuzhou University (China), Prof. Miranda Schreurs (Technical University of Munich, Germany), Prof. Aoife Foley (University of Manchester, UK), and Prof. LU Xi (Tsinghua University) as representatives of the editorial board.
